Kuih Talam Ubi Kayu



Kueh Talam Ubi Kayu (Steamed Tapioca Cake). Traditional Malay kuih dessert.

Ingredients for Kueh Talam Ubi Kayu (Steamed Tapioca Cake):
  • 1 grated coconut
  • 3 oz. (90g.) cornflour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
Tapioca Layer Ingredients:
  • 2 cups grated tapioca (drained of excess liquid)
  • 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup gula melaka (chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Method:
  1. Add some water to grated coconut and squeeze out 19oz. (570ml.) santan/coconut milk.
  2. Mix well all tapioca tapioca layer ingredients with 7 oz. (210ml.) santan.
  3. Turn into a greased square tray and steam 30-40 mins. till set.
  4. To prepare santan layer. Blend remaining santan with cornflour and salt.
  5. Pour over brown layer and continue steaming, about 15 mins. till set. Check out these food steamers.
  6. Cool well before cutting into squares to serve.
