Marble Cake

Marble Cake is a combination of white and chocolate batters that are swirled and mixed together just before baking to give that wonderful marbled affect.

Ingredients for Marble Cake:
  • 10 oz. (315g.) self-raising flour (sifted with a pinch of salt)
  • 8 oz. (250g.) butter
  • 8 oz. (250g.) castor sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1½ tsp. coffee essence
  • 1½ oz. (45g.) plain chocolate + 1½ fl. oz. (45ml.) milk - (dissolve chocolate)
  1. Cream butter and sugar till light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs gradually, beating well after each addition.
  3. Fold in flour lightly.
  4. Add a little milk if necessary.
  5. Divide mixture into 2 equal portions. Add dissolved chocolate to one portion and coffee essence to another.
  6. Put chocolate in a greased cake tin, leaving space for the other portion.
  7. With a sharp object stir lightly and mix the two portion (or make a swirl) to create a marble effect.

  9. Remove from oven to cool. Cut and serve.
